The Hook Up had the right mix of drama, sexy times and swoony moments.
Game On Series by Kristen Callihan
But this one reminded me of why I love a well written new adult book. Drew has been hit by the dumb stick when it comes to Anna. His mother warned him: It would be when I fell in love. Now, he is trying to fix what he said. Believe me, I was referring to the best places. I was digging the whole vibe of this story. Drew is a big deal. I was in heaven reading this story.
Callihan has plans for more books. Each following book is secondary characters from the first book. To find out when more will be released click here. This story is a well done entertaining read. I have read this plot of the hot quarterback falling for the non-Barbie type of girl with issues many times over. However, the author brings her own flare and incorporates great banter and hot sex scenes to the tale. When Anna is hit on in her college classroom by the star quaterback of the school's football team she tries to resist.
Finally she caves to Drew's charms and attempts to keep him in a hook up category. And damn if I won't have a good time doing it. Because while I might be patient, I'm no saint. His pov was well done and his feelings for Anna were butterfly inducing. I also found myself feeling very protective of him for the majority of the story he was such a sweetheart.
I will definitely be picking up the next book in the series about Gray the hot jock who can cook. View all 80 comments. Feb 18, Elle Kennedy rated it it was amazing. One of my all-time faves. Love this hero so much! Aug 29, Jill rated it liked it Shelves: Anna Jones and Drew Baylor meet in history of philosophy class.
She has no interest in football; he's the star quarterback. And despite their attraction to each other, Anna uses their differences to keep them apart. Until the hook up. Drew is a god. Anna is a late-bloomer. Ignored during her high school years, she still carries baggage with her despite developing from ugly duckling to almost swan. Still curvy, she's no longer the awkward chubster with frizzy red hair and braces.
I'm not a fan Anna Jones and Drew Baylor meet in history of philosophy class. I'm not a fan of hook ups, sex-only relationships or new-adult reads. But I am a fan of Kristen Callihan, sports romances and attraction-of-opposites. But it was the second half of the book which impressed me. Where the first half was boy meets girl, girl rejects boy, boy chases, girl gets caught, the second was particularly engaging, watching the growth of not only the protags but also some of the secondary characters, especially one of the footballers who is the hero in the next book. Bonus points also for the dual points-of-view.
There are numerous sex scenes and despite my recent criticism of a new-adult romance by another well-known author who has also turned her hand to new-adult stories, the sex scenes here are very well-written, steamy, without feeling gratuitous or excessive, and ultimately boring. What starts as just hook-up sex, becomes more as the development of their romance also brings a true intimacy into their love scenes. Both Anna and Drew are likable main characters. Drew is particularly delicious; a well-drawn character with faults, but real depth, and not just a jock.
The Hook Up is new-adult, and if that's not your cuppa, I'd say pass. But an unreserved recommendation though for readers of new-adult, and for readers who enjoy sports romances with college-age protags. View all 89 comments. It made me feel so much! Butterflies, angst, fear, love, hope, pain! I loved every minute of Anna and Drew's love story. The good, the bad and the ugly!!! The girl who holds on to the insecurities of her past The larger than life football star A love story that starts as a hook-up because the girl can't ever imagine that the boy would choose her.
I see the star too. I need the dark. A love story where the girl makes the boy feel whole, feel alive for the first time since the death of his parents. With want and desire. With pain and longing and hope. Two people growing, learning and accepting how they feel. A connection so strong that they couldn't stay away. Too much pride to admit defeat and too much insecurity to take a chance. View all 85 comments. Aug 30, Didi rated it it was amazing Shelves: I have a tumultuous relationship with NA.
I was about to avoid it completely with it's overdone tropes and over-the-top drama. But then I read this book and it changed my perspective completely because sometimes I won't explain what this book is about, just read the synopsis. But I will get into why I loved this so much and why it's worth reading! This was a beautiful love story, a lovely, fantastic and sexy love story.
Drew, being the star quarterback at college falls for the quiet and reserved Anna Jones. She's had a rough time during her teen years and tries to stay away from Drew, the most popular, most coveted person on campus. Their hook-up changes everything and in the most wonderful of ways. This book had an emotional depth not found in other NA books I've read. It had a maturity that puts it ahead of it's genre. The character growth was probably my most favorite thing to watch. The way Drew's and Anna's relationship developed and evolved was tender, realistic and had my heart doing backflips.
Forget overdone drama, the angst here was on a whole other level. It was relatable, REAL, evocative and crushing at the same time. The sex scenes were incredible and although plenty, they were done in a way that never got boring or mistaken for filler. They were sexy, raw, intense and dripped emotion. But the real winners here were Drew and Anna. Drew has to be one of the most lovely and excruciatingly beautiful characters I've read in a long time. He never crumbled under the spotlight but remained aware of who he was and that was a different man from the all-star player.
I can't say enough about him, so many things that he said left me sighing and tearing up. His emotional commitment to Anna was nothing short of extraordinary. He was so vulnerable, so willing to put everything on the line to be with her that I wanted to scream over how amazing he was. Anna was a fantastic character as well.

I often have a hard time with NA heroines because they seem to be all alike. And her growth, her eventual realization over what truly mattered left me speechless. Watching her grow into the woman she was meant to be was like coming home. Her and Drew together was electric, charged and completely satisfying. Things happen here and the plot twists had me literally hanging off the seat of my pants. So many emotional scenes that were so intense, so distressing The epilogue was everything I wanted it to be, it was just lovely, just perfect. I can't say enough how much I loved this book! The secondary characters were fantastic and the second book is about one of Drew's best friends, which I really look forward to.
I'm definitely looking forward to reading more from this incredible author! Thanks so much Jill, had you never read this and convinced me to do the same, I would have missed out on a truly amazing read! View all 86 comments. The Hook Up Series: Game On 1 Author: Kristen Callihan Release date: September 8, Rating: This is her first attempt at New Adult and I have to say, I was completely impressed with this book.
The writing was fantastic. It was emotional, it was funny, it was Title: It was emotional, it was funny, it was gripping in a way that I was unable to set this bad boy down once I took a peek at it! You know exactly what I'm talking about, I know you do. Your curiosity is aroused so you turn to the first few pages to get a sample of the writing and before you know it, you're chapters in and promising yourself, "Just a few more pages.
Looking at the cover, sorry but I wasn't too crazy about it. He looks goofy as hell! But please don't judge the book on that smarmy guy. I'm so glad I decided to try this one out. This book has all the signs of a superior book: Freaking fire alarm steamy-don't read this in public H. This is not your typical NA fare An abundant amount of 2 Made me laugh multiple times 5…My highlighting finger got a really good workout.
On to the story A bad first impression, a heroine with a past that has shaped her to be prickly and sensitive, and a hero not used to getting immediate adoration because of his football stardom not that he enjoys it, he's a pretty humble guy At first sight, Drew is thunderstruck and speechless over Anna. In his own words: I'm not going to say it was love at first sight.
Anna is not impressed by his adulation. In fact, it has the opposite effect. They take football seriously down south, and his talent has them clambering for a piece of him. Anna is a complicated girl. She throws off a tough girl vibe that screams strength, but inside, because of bullying in high school, has body and confidence issues. Her body has changed since then, but her mind hasn't.
Though she had her insecurities, I still liked her. She was funny, independent, intelligent, and loyal. She was the complete package, but doesn't do serious relationships. So when she has a similar reaction to Drew upon meeting him, she puts up a fortress around herself that's she's determined to keep up around him. But eventually, one night at a party, it happens. It was the single, most electrifying, life changing experience for both of them.
The problem is, she doesn't want to be. Tonight was obviously an ill-advised hook up for her. And I'm so screwed up because it was the best thing that has ever happened to me. After realizing she can't stay away from him, she erects "The Rules" to keep them from getting too close. No kissing, no staying the night, no telling anyone, and no falling in love. Drew's willing to gamble that he can make her break all those rules. They really had some combustible chemistry. And the fact that they couldn't kiss added so much sexual tension to the mix.
Never before has so much importance and heat been put into a single first kiss. It's significance is unspoken but plain as day. They give each other untold pleasure but both secretly yearn to explore the intimacy and everything that giving that piece of themselves symbolizes. Best first kiss ever. He had a tragic past, but he doesn't obsess over that, he's hot yet sweet, and he's not a manwhore. Yet he was still strong and determined when it came to what he wanted. And that would be Anna. Before you know it, not only their sexual connection is drawing her in, but she's found a best friend in him.
They talk long into the night, they debate with each other, their sense of humor is the same, and she finds herself not just wanting him but needing him. Just as he needs her. His entire body seems to light up. Like he's plugged in to me. And that energy bounces back over me, lifting the little hairs along my skin, tripping up the steady beat of my heart. I know that now. I've lost myself to him. Drew presses my hand against his sweaty chest where his heart still beats a fierce rhythm.
His voice is whisper-quiet but crystal clear. Of course, I had hoped it would be good, but it exceeded my expectations in many ways. More emotion, more steam, more humor, it was simply more. I must mention however, I did have one pet peeve in this book and that was the hero blushing. FYI, that's not hot-he's not a bride or a virginal heroine. But other than that, I couldn't think of a thing to complain about.
The characters weren't perfect, but showed real human emotions and even when I wanted to break out something really hard and smack Anna upside her stubborn little head, I was rooting for them all way. I loved how this couple grew together and learned a lot about themselves and what they were capable of. They gave each other strength and I loved spending time with them!!
I'm really excited for the next book in the series with Drew's best friend. View all 48 comments. She is in college now, trying to stay as unnoticed as possible, but this seems impossible, especially when the quarterback from the football team, Drew Baylor, sets his eyes on her.

How is he going to make Anna see that, when she's so stubborn and wants nothing from him? Especially after their hook up, which only proves that she also wants him, but doesn't want a relationship with him? The Hook Up was a book that I owned for a while now and I still don't understand why I hadn't read it earlier! It was really amazing, even though the first part of the book had left me disappointed, thinking 'oh shit insta love is on the menu'.
But thankfully the plot had me changing my mind and most of all Drew. His character was so flawless that had me drooling all over him, thinking 'I wish there were guys like him in real life. Because let's face it, Drew was perfect. He was so romantic, every time he opened his mouth my heart was melting. Every time he did something, I would look like a puppy to my screen, thinking: He broke my heart to pieces and his story was so heartbreaking and his character was so well shaped, I just can't find a flaw in his character and I would gladly have his babies.
I have to admit that I didn't feel the same affection for our dearly heroine, Anna. I could understand her fears and I supported her, but she was pissing me off. Yes, I got where she was coming from, but Drew was so perfect to her and since day 1 he was crystal clear about what he wanted, she was just trying to keep that distance and her whole insecurity just had me in rage, since my heart was aching for Drew. I may be unfair and harsh and I have to admit that I pitied her by the end, but it was too late for me to consider her likeable when she finally got her shit together. And you definitely have to meet Drew!

It was like a hot finger stroking down my spine. My head snapped up. One day, Love will creep up and smack you upside the head. But hey that doesn't mean he's happy, then one day he see's one girl this girl namely Anna Jones is then ALL he see's but she's a nothing in her eyes, a small fish in a big pond concerning Drew in her eyes. Here we have two people who are moving forward in their lives but not necessarily enjoying what they have cause they have a big whole to fill. You know there's that moment when you need and want its definitely the case for Drew the only thing is Anna rebels and may want him back but won't admit it so there are rules and they go like this: So can Drew break that rule and turn Anna around to his thinking??
Anna Jones doesn't know what she wants to do with her life she's at college and all but the only thing she would like is to be in New York, She lives with her friend and enjoys her little life of contentment studying, working but after a not great break up in her past she doesn't do relationships she doesn't want the feelings that go with it nor has she been out recently that is until her friends get her out where she bumps into Drew and where they start their Hook Up now I'm not going to tell you much more about the story just lets say emotions obviously get involved and its time to take a chance when you just know right??
My thoughts Here I am sitting trying the fathom the right words to express how much joy this book gave me, its has the sweet romance and getting to know you feel and then there's the whole I NEED YOU NOW feel, friendship, love and sex its all there, there chemisty was off the charts and majority of this read I was panting in my seat and wondering whats going to happen next I never got bored of it too, really this NA was not inappropriate or unrealistic the maturity of the story gripped me and I was thinking about it throughout the day which to means a good story to me.

Sep 12, Beverly rated it it was amazing. Perfectly sweet, perfectly sexy and perfectly addictive! Drew Baylor is the star quarterback on a winning football team. I am from the South where footballs king, so I totally understood the allure of Drew. The star football player on a winning football team is everything here, and Battle Baylor is everything there too. Naturally Anna assumes Drew is just like every other jock, perhaps even worse since he is the star quarterback.
To her surprise, Drew proved to be anything, but typical and I fell in love with him. This book is super fun, but also had so much heart. I loved that it had both, so few books do. We are not bombarded with chicks who lose their mental capacity because they want a certain blokes attention. It's not just assumed that a guy ONLY thinks with his bits and pieces. Dec 19, Alba and Her Secrets.. This has been quite the year for Kristen Ashley and her readers. She has released quite a lot of books and of course, she ended it with a bang!
She starts a new series with The Hookup and I already have fallen in love with all these new characters she has presented. The Hookup is the first installment in the Moonlight and M 4. Izzy falls instantly but Johnny has been in a bad place for several years: It was the beginning of something. If you have been following me since I started blogging, you know by now that Kristen Ashley is probably my absolute favorite romance author.
I always get extremely excited when she announces or releases anything and The Hookup was no exception. This baby practically appeared out of nowhere when KA announced it and, of course, she made it into another outstanding piece of writing. That dress is so fucking hot I want to haul you around to the back, shove the skirt up, rip your panties off and fuck you against The Star.
Izzy comes from a difficult past, a past without a father but with a loving mother and sister and an abusive boyfriend. Johnny, as I said before, is not in the best place either. Also, during the first chapters is not easy for him to see what he feels for Izzy. However that changes pretty quickly! Izzy stoles his heart, body and soul completely with her easy laughter, her beautiful personality and everything that makes Izzy the way she is.
Of course, the same happens for Izzy. Johnny Gamble is the good, settled and sexy man in town and she is not about to pass that up to anybody. When Johnny focuses on her and their happiness together, they become one. And can I mention the incredible chemistry these two have?
KA is also the queen of alpha males, that is for sure! The sex between Izzy and Johnny is extremely hot and when their feelings also get in the mix, even better! I loved them, I loved their families again awesome secondary characters! Can I also say, I very much hope that the next story is about Toby and Addie?
They are so cute together and with Brooks, they melted my heart! I am sure KA will deliver a great second installment in this series. I'll be honest I have pretty much given up on KA ever writing a book that comes close to some of her earlier ones. She used to be an automatic buy for me, but now I pretty much pass them by without a second look.
That said, a lot of people seemed to like the is one. Said it was "old school" KA etc. So I figured I would give it a go As much as her early stuff Would I re-read it? But it was an enjoyable read for the most part. It wasn't overly long and drawn I'll be honest I have pretty much given up on KA ever writing a book that comes close to some of her earlier ones. The sex scenes were hot. All the characters were likable. But compared to some of the utter crap she has put out lately, this one came closet to the KA out old. View all 21 comments. Because of all the disorder and anxiety in her childhood, she lives a very meticulous and controlled life. A hot, wild night with someone who is virtual stranger is out of her norm and definitely out of her comfort zone. The Hookup is about a one night stand that becomes much more to Johnny and Izzy. He went for Melanie. And Melanie was the finest being in that book. Even Rhett adored Melanie. Scarlett gets all the attention because the woman is the diva to end all divas.
She was just as strong as Scarlett but a whole lot quieter about it, which is strength in itself. That right there is gospel. And dare I forget the reason we all really pick up stories like this. Not that long ago, I worked from home and set my own hours which gave me a wee bit of leeway when my favourite author released a new book.
Now, I actually have to walk out my door to go to work and manage my reading time around work hand to my forehead…the burdens we carry. A couple of hours in the morning and then trying to read after work, without doinking myself on the A new plan A couple of hours in the morning and then trying to read after work, without doinking myself on the head with my Kindle when I nod off, is not a lot of reading time. So, it was time to adjust. I decided to listen to The Hookup as well as read. This worked really well for me.
Morning reading, listen while in transit to and from work and then a mix of reading and listening when I got home. It was actually a really enjoyable way to experience this story. Well, the narrators do the hard yards for you. I thought that was pretty cool. Anyways… I really enjoyed The Hookup. The storyline was interesting, the main characters were my favourite type of Alpha meets Quirky, and it was HOT!! Seriously, these guys do not take long to show us that they are very, VERY well suited to each other.
I loved that Johnny was pretty straight with Izzy. Johnny knew that his heart was damaged but pretty quickly realised that Izzy may be the person to fix it. He made it clear he was interested, kept the communication open and always tried to be considerate of her feelings. I have no problems with a hero who steps up to help with chores whether they are mowing the lawn or washing the dishes.
I dream of my hubby saying something like that to me. He brings out the sexy in her…and she likes it. The Hookup was a very easy story to settle into. Most of the drama is around the couple with them fighting it together, which is the way I like it. I can't wait to meet them again hopefully soon. Kristen Ashley is still my favouritist author in the whole entire world and I loved stepping into Matlock, Kentucky with the characters she created.
I was desperate to start and unfortunately read it too fast which means I was sad when it was over too quick. The trials and tribulations of a Kristen Ashley Addict. I'm a scaredy cat, you see. Now, The Hookup, wow You know what I recognized about KA's books? The male protagonist in her books have this air of unapologetic, confident vibe to them that is so honest yet not rude. They have this no nonsense attitude to them that whenever they open their mouth to say even the simplest thing- I can't help but smile so wide and feel my inner fan girl squeal with joy. You know what else I love? Like they say "own it, babe". Eliza is innocent but not in a naive way- more in the- She is not a risk-taker, she's a creature of habit.
Her quirkiness is her need for schedule.. If there is something to be said about Lizzie, it is that she is responsible, careful and guarded. He is dependable, understanding He is basically what we ALL want in a badass alpha macho man hahaha. KA's stories are mostly based on the age old 'love at first sight.. It's the most cliche start to a story, right? But KA does what she does best and writes a damn good book. If you haven't noticed from my rambling.. I love Kristen Ashley's books.. She has woven her magic yet again with The Hookup.
Was it one of my favourite KA book? I'm being honest here. And if we are on the path of honestly I'll admit one more thing.. For more reviews and giveaways follow my blog at www. Jan 20, Janie rated it really liked it Shelves: I should know though that with her magic, KA would find a way to turn that around. He definitely made some wrong moves in the beginning, one of which was a misunderstanding for Izzy and myself as a reader. Izzy was sweet, caring and honest. She has the biggest heart and anyone in her circle is lucky to call her a friend or sister. In doing that though, the Johnny she ended up with was a man that any woman would be lucky to call her own.
All he wanted was to love her completely knowing he would get that in return. He wanted to take care of her and give her the sweetest life she could dream up. This has a fantastic group of secondary characters that added to the story without overpowering it. View all 18 comments. I'm barely four words into this review and I'm already cringing because I know that I'll be in the minority with my opinion.
Well, it's not like we can all agree on the same things all the time, right? I give up, after finally realizing that she's just not the author for me. I have probably read three or four books of hers — very little compared to all the works she's published — but that was enough for me to recognize her writin I'm barely four words into this review and I'm already cringing because I know that I'll be in the minority with my opinion.
It just was something void of deep emotions or any kind of significant event. It was like spying on a relationship that had just begun and turned serious pretty quickly, with the main characters having hot sex, not communicating enough and coming to the conclusion they were perfect for each other in just a few weeks. You'll say, but this is like, the plot of thousands of Romance books! Love at first sight, steamy sex, premature declarations of undying love and cheesy conversations about the name of the protagonists' future babies.
Eliza is thirty-one, she's completely independent and with a job she loves. The only relative she has left is her younger, married sister, and her last relationship ended so badly, her psycho ex broke in her apartment, stole a family token and threatened to hurt her. That's why she decides to leave the city and move to a charming, little town from where she'll commute every day to work.
She buys land for her horses, dogs, cats and canaries. She's the perfect Romance heroine. She's kind, she lives by herself, doesn't need a man to feel accomplished, loves her animals more than she loves most people. She's sexy, she's style, she'd do anything for her sister and her infant nephew. But then, one night, when she feels lonely and ready to get to know her new town better and make new acquaintances, she goes to the local bar, where she meets tall and dark Johnny. He buys her drinks but also orders a glass of water for her, when he realizes she's had enough alcohol.
So he's considerate, respectful and incredibly handsome. He asks her questions and pays attention to all her replies. But he never reveals anything about his own life. Eliza doesn't notice that immediately, and when they go back to Johnny's beautiful house and spend the night together, all she can think about is how perfect their chemistry is and how desirable he is. Johnny is, actually, a good man.
He's blunt and honest when it comes to what he likes about Eliza, but turns cold and closed-off when the woman inquires about his family. It's only after Eliza comes back home, with the promise from Johnny to have dinner with her two days later, that her best friend, Deanna, fellow resident of the small town, informs her that Johnny had an epic love story with the town's beauty: Everyone believed they'd end up getting married and having children, and when Shandra left and abandoned Johnny, he never recovered. So Deanna obviously warns her friend against falling in love with the beautiful man, because she fears Eliza might end with a broken heart.
At this point, keeping in mind the book blurb, I expected not only for Johnny to still feel something for his ex-girlfriend and supposedly love of his life, but also that, at some point, Shandra would come back and cause a drama of epic proportions. I'll be honest, I craved that drama. I wanted Johnny to be a tortured asshole, Shandra to be a beautiful bitch and Eliza to suffer, rebel, leave, and in the end be the only real love of Johnny's life. There was almost no drama, it was clear that Eliza was never going to be second-best. Johnny fell for her that first night they met, and Shandra was actually a good person.
She'll repeat words and phrases over and over, as well as thoughts and trivial actions. It could be the author trying to make the reader understand how her characters think and behave, but it gets tiring after a few pages. It doesn't help to outline the story or the characters, not after the third time the reader reads it.
It's something already assimilated and when the writing doesn't flow smoothly, it actually becomes distracting, instead of informing and engrossing. To me, one-star reviews belong to books I don't finish reading, and even though I basically skipped a lot of the last three chapters, I finished reading the story. View all 13 comments. It is no secret that I am a huge KA fan. I love the majority of her books. I've had a few misses with her, but you can't love them all I guess.
But if I want a comfort read that is in the MF world, she is my go to author. She takes up the most space on my book shelves and space on my kindle. If I own the book I own the ebook. LOL So there's the proof of my love for this gal. She just has a way of writing women who aren't whiny and crying all the time that I appreciate.
I love her alpha 4 Stars! I love her alpha men and her feisty heroines. So I was pretty excited about this new book and series. KA has a way of describing a scene that puts you right in there with her characters. She gives you a visual that makes you feel like your sitting around the table with her characters enjoying the food and drinks with them. She makes you feel like you are an a extended character in her world. She can let it get away from her too when it comes to describing clothes. I might only have an issue with that because this gal gives no fucks about fashion.
LOL Johnny was a dream. I loved how straight up he was with his feelings from the beginning and didn't pretend he was all the way in with Izzy just so he could get laid. I liked that Izzy knew where she stood accepted it and decided to let herself have something with him even knowing she wasn't going to be the end game. She was drama free and I can't say how much I liked that. I really liked the side characters and I really hope we get a book with her sister Addi and his brother Toby and baby Brooks.
Oct 15, Jennifer Kyle rated it really liked it Shelves: IMO it has the same vibe, the same sexy hero and the same independent but happy heroine. The book starts right off with their hookup, something Eliza, aka Iz or Izzy, has never done before so she's a little awkward. Johnny doesn't care though because in his mind, this is just the beginning.
And we get to know all the requisite characters, the siblings, the families and the best friends Although what I thought would be the drama didn't quite pan out and instead went a different direction. So, that was interesting. Johnny's pretty popular so people are interested in what's going on in his life It doesn't help that her best friend, Deanna, keeps her filled in on what the town thinks.
Izzy and Johnny are really sweet together and I enjoyed how they got to know each other but as with most of Kristen Ashley's books, this one is long and drawn out. An interesting character is Johnny's brother, Toby, and I was happy when he showed back up in town. And even happier with the way things are going with a certain someone.
I'm hoping his story is next although at this time, I couldn't find any details.
And it wraps up well. It was really cute how they or should I say Johnny planned everything out! Oct 14, Wendy rated it liked it Shelves: I can't believe I am rating this only 3 stars but To be honest, I was a bit bored. The story was very sweet and both characters are great, but something felt missing.
Not enough angst and emotion for me. I was waiting for the other shoe to drop and it never really did: Now if you are looking for something light and sweet and steamy, then you should definitely give this one a go. The chemistry between these two I can't believe I am rating this only 3 stars but The chemistry between these two was off the charts and Johnny even managed to make me blush: P So, even though this was not one of my favs by KA, it was still a very nice read and I am sure all KA fans are jumping for joy!!
I fell asleep reading The Hookup. I was so into it, I couldn't put it down even though my eyes were drooping. I fell asleep in a small town in Kentucky watching two people deal with the aftermath of their hookup and, I swear, Johnny Gamble and Izzy Forrester infiltrated my dreams with that mess, that push and pull, with their assumptions and insecurities and steamy attraction.
I dreamt of this book and I woke up before the sun to dive right back into it. I adored th I fell asleep reading The Hookup. It sweeps you off your feet and takes you away to a world where college frat parties become the starting point of one of the most amazing college romances, and all our troubles disappear. No-one sees Anna Jones.
Her childhood was one she would rather forget, and after seeing first hand how her mother had her heart broken more than she cared to count, Anna vowed to never become that woman. She would never allow herself to become vulnerable to a man, to fall in love. So she moved cities, started her life again with her two best-friends and believed it was all she needed in her life to be happy.
One word was playing a loop in my head: These two have exceptional chemistry. The witty dialogue and fun banter were what had drawn me to keep reading in the first place. Drew and Anna had a lot of moments where my heart just ached for them.
See a Problem?
Anna was really struggling with accepting what Drew wanted from her. She had removed the thought of settling down with anyone from her mind, yet Drew wants no-one but her. This added a whole new level of angst to the story as they navigated their way around these emotions they had no idea had snuck up on them. My heart ached for them both.
He makes me feel better than myself. The thought has me withdrawing, sinking into that cold, thick place that chokes me. You should definitely start with this book. If you're a lover of NA, contemporary, college sports romance stories you'll seriously love the story within The Hook Up.
The first person point of views alternating between the two main characters worked so well with this author's awesome writing and story structure. I had fun while reading this book. I fell for both of the characters immediately and the two of them together was as intellectually stimulating as it was smoking hot. Kristen Callihan doesn't shy away from hot sex and even hotter dialogue.
Drew Baylor is the star quarterback for his alma mater and Anna Jones the book worm who keeps out of sight. Drew lives up to his position of fame in unexpected ways. He's the down to earth, elusive, witty guy with a killer smile and all kinds of panty melting charm. Anna Jones is smart, shy, beautiful, and quirky trying to find her place in the world.
She carries with her a host of issues she tries to repress only Drew brings them to light. She's quick on the sass and can fire away at Drew's probing like no other. The two of them spark something in each other neither saw coming. I freaking loved this story. I devoured it in a day because I was so charged by these characters and their presence. The author's writing was superb and engaging. Her knowledge of college athletics was on point as well as the issues and vulnerability of this time in our lives.
Coupled with falling in love without even wanting to during this time made it that much more intriguing to read. It was simple reading with low levels of crazy angst. Just two people discovering each other with good conflict present. Their banter was honestly some of the best parts. The secondary characters complimented the story greatly. The level of sex in this story pleasantly surprised me and catapulted Drew and Anna even higher.
Strong characters, intriguing plot, excellent writing and tons of romance comprise The Hook Up. I seriously loved it and can't wait to read more.
